Day 4: Not a whole lot of progress

Finally, headphones

The most exciting thing was buying a RCA -> headphone adapter so I can listen on headphones without going through an amp.

Was busy working on work things so I didn't have a lot of time on Day 4. Beowulf computer cluster ahoy!

I ran through Yoshimi twice and didn't do any better than prior runs. I'm going to work through the song on practice mode at 70% speed until I get 95%, then turn up to 80% and so on. I want to get 95% on hard before moving on to a new song.

In about a week I'll start recording. It'll be more interesting than text. Hopefully.

Background!

Why?

I found a bunch of youtube videos by "Rose of Jericho" (roseofjerichoband) where their guitarist give the Squier a real workout and gives the pros and cons. I highly recommend checking out some of his videos to see what makes Pro Guitar mode worth it.

Little bit of my musical background...

I have been playing the guitar on and off for 4 years now. My first guitar was a Silver Sister Stratocaster (mexican strat but with a humbucker). I bought an Ibanez acoustic guitar (concert sized, not a dreadnaught) about three years ago. I learned all of the major open chords and most of the barre chords (except for B... look up the fingering for it and you'll see why). I took private lessons for a few months and a guitar class at Club Passim in Harvard Square about two years ago. I can strum along to most songs but was frustrated that even following tabs it didn't really *feel* like the song.

I tried Guitar Hero when it came out at a friend's house. Was a neat game but I didn't want to spend the $80 for it at the time. 4 1/2 years I bought it on impulse a few days before Thanksgiving because one of my brothers bought it and I wanted to play with him over the holidays. I was good enough at Guitar Hero 2 to beat all the songs on expert and rank in the top 3 at a few bar competitions. I got tired of the game with Guitar Hero 3 and stopped at tier 7. Knights of Cydonia is fun, but the other songs on that tier, screw that...

Again, why the hell are you doing this?

To see how well Rock Band 3 and the MIDI Stratocaster can improve my guitar skills. There's a lot of people who can play chords and a few riffs but haven't gotten past that. Let's see if this does the trick.

That's a really stupid name!

I went with E Man because I wanted a new handle for this blog. It was a nickname from my teenage years.
